I found a great post when I searched for Digital Storytelling. The teacher described her worried feelings as the project progressed - unsure if there would actually be completion.....or "fall-flat" discouragement. I want to read much more by this reflective practioner, and glean some ideas about how to persevere through the snags!

This blog is about dynamic energy, metaphysics and their relationship to food energy.

I liked it because it is very well laid out and easy to follow.

This is a great blog about staging your home for resale. I like the way that blog explores different staging possibilities which could work with your budget in order to maximize the potential of your home.

This is a great introduction to audio production. It really takes me back to when I was a fresh-eared beginner.

http://www.thingsthatiknow.com/2008/03/31/does-equipment-matter-the-truth-about-audio-quality/

The information is accurate and easy to access.

The layout is simple and the colour scheme is easy on the eyes.

I've been (slowly) learning teaching myself about electronics, and building little synthesizers from this site: http://www.musicfromouterspace.com/
An osciliscope is a tool that I'd also like to be able to own.

Why is the swimming pool water not fresh water? It just is an extension of the sea and not a swimming pool.

http://smoking.ygoy.com/

This is a "Quit Smoking" blog. I recently quit and have been trying to persuade my husband and brother to do the same.

I like the way this blog presents the information: top headlines, sections etc...very easy to read.

Of particular interest is the top story as of May 8, 2008 that Greece is planning to ban smoking...I wonder if that will ever happen, considering it's the heaviest smoking country in all of Europe! Apparently this ban will have restaurants cater 50% of their seating to non-smoking clientale and raise the tobacco age to 18! This really will be a rare phenomenon! Being of Greek heritage and having travelled to Greece, this ban will definitely be a huge accomplishment- if it actually happens!

I love Chocolate and Zucchini:

http://chocolateandzucchini.com

It's a site written by a young Parisian woman all about the food, culture and restaurants of her glorious, perfect city. I am one of thousands and thousands of visitors to the site everyday.

What's great about it? The tone of the writing is super friendly and warm - as if you had a best friend in Paris telling you all of the secrets of her perfect corner of paradise. All of the photos are taken by the author, which lends a charm to everything. An amazing index of recipes and archived posts makes this a blog to explore and explore for days.

What's not so good? The layout is cluttered and so full of text that it seems a bit much. I like a cleaner look.

Otherwise perfect.

Current events in Christchurch

http://canterburyheritage.blogspot.com

This site gives news and information about current events that occur in Christchurch, New Zealand.

I like the simple layout of the site. There isn't too much going on. If you want lots of information up there then you can easily expand the folders to see a lot of information.

The Indie Travel Podcast

http://www.indietravelpodcast.com/

I was looking for a blog that commented on or that catalogued links to tour podcasting (podcasts created for self-directed tours of cities, museums, etc). I’m not sure if that’s what I’ve found, but this is an interesting blog nonetheless.

The layout is easy to understand at a glance. I particularly like the slideshow photo layout at the bottom of the page.

I liked this blog because it is written by a young woman who has a brother with autism. I am really interested in this subject. I also love that she reviews a book I also loved to read, Look Me In the Eye. Finally, I think it is neat that she wants to be a writer (so do I).

"And Baby Makes Three"

http://gailandgreg.blogspot.com/2008/07/separation-anxiety.html

This blog is about a mom leaving her baby at daycare, and how he's dealing with the separation.

I liked the layout of this blog. It included a survey on the side (where their two-year-old should go to college!) and the font was big and easy to read. Not too cluttered.

The blog that i visited was:

Smrt Mobs: The next social revolution

The entry that i looked at, announced that Howard Rheingold was one of 17 winners of the Digital Media and Learning competition sponsored by HASTAC and the MacArthur Foundation. He won the award for creating:

"A mixed reality game for high school students in Los Angeles and Cairo to learn about the real-time impact of air pollution in their neighborhoods. A web application that aggregates news and nonprofit needs, where every news story is linked to real-world actions that users can take. "

The quote i found very powerful in the blog was:

Will today’s digital networks become tools of surveillance and control, or will they foster new literacies and enable new forms of collective action? Because I believe that the answer hinges upon whether enough people learn to use digital media for cultural, economic, and political production, I’ve been establishing resources for learning and teaching participatory media literacies.

This is Steve Byfield's (a well-known tap dancer in T.O.) Blog about tap dancing news in the T. Dot. It's got some good info. about tap dance classes etc. available in Toronto.
The layout is easy to follow, and provides video clips of dance classes and tap steps. Unfortunately not too many people besides Steve have made comments on his blog...

Technology and literacy
--very important connection between the two
- constant/ongoing observation of student's performance using technology, agree as one observation is rarely valid
- using real situations to teach literacy is a stronger/more effective strategy, technology allows for this reality

Is this important? Why?

Student groupings are important for learning –

- Do you agree or disagree? Why?
Yes, I agree. Collaboration is an important skill and helps learning

Comment on
e-workshop:
Student groupings
- What is your opinion?
The resource says:
"While many students like learning new instructional technologies on their own, research points to the many benefits to be realized from learning and using technology in pairs or small groups. Junior students learn in new ways while interacting with others. "

I agree with this – I find that in using technology collaboration is very important. It focuses kids and supports constructivist, layered learning.
